How it wins

Judge each pick by the job missing from your deck. Blue’s extra cards and red’s damage work together only if you have time to use them. Noisemaker is a useful bonus for spells you already want; do not fill the deck with weak spells just to trigger it.

Early
Develop a real creature, such as Noisemaker or a supported Apothecary. Save cheap interaction for an opposing start you cannot block.
Middle
Use recruit creatures to add a board while improving your hand. Cast useful removal and draw spells; Noisemaker turns those casts into Army growth.
Finish
Attack with flying creatures or a sufficiently large Army. Keep casting useful spells instead of waiting for an elaborate combo.

What it needs

Both colors provide the necessary pieces in your actual packs: early bodies, card flow and interaction. A solitary spells-matter card is not enough evidence to force the pair.

Four checks while you draft

  1. 1
    Early bodies

Can you put a creature down before the four-mana cards?

A draw spell cannot block the opponent’s first attack.

  2. 2
    Creature interaction

Can your answer handle the threat actually in front of you?

Pinecone handles three toughness; the red Saga deals six on its first chapter.

  3. 3
    Cards without abandoning the board

Are you drawing cards while still adding blockers or attackers?

Recruit creatures combine a body with a draw and discard.

  4. 4
    Pressure that survives a stall

What will actually deal damage after the board fills?

Flying avoids ground blockers; Plate Mail gives an Army menace.

Choose the missing job before another reward that needs it.

What to take next

You have Noisemaker but little removal.

Take Pinecone over an extra draw-only spell.

It answers a creature and still triggers Noisemaker.

You already draw enough but lack bodies.

Choose Instructor or Nuisance.

The creature matters even when no spells-matter payoff survives.

The support is missing

If one color supplies only filler or unsupported payoffs, keep the stronger base and consider a different partner. Preserve your early plays while making that change.

Signals to watch
  • Useful blue creatures and red interaction arriving repeatedly justify checking this pair. A lone Noisemaker is a support question, not a commitment command.
  • Recruit bodies and useful noncreature spells together can support more than one plan. If one color offers only expensive card flow or narrow rewards, compare a stronger partner.

Repeated useful cards are clues, not proof that the colors are open.

Don’t
Discard is not cast

Recruit discarding Plunder triggers no Noisemaker ability. Casting it with flashback does.

Amass usually grows one body

If you already control an Army, amass adds counters to it. Do not count every amass spell as another blocker.

Pick-Two: check both jobs

Two spells do not become creatures just because Noisemaker is somewhere in your deck. Count the real opening bodies and the board you can defend without drawing that one reward.

Examples apply the printed rules; judge the board, costs and timing.

Bothersome Noisemaker + Plunder the Trollshaws

  1. With Noisemaker in play, cast Plunder from hand; the cast triggers amass one.
  2. Resolve Plunder’s card draw. If you have drawn exactly one card earlier this turn, this can also enable a second-draw reward.
  3. Later, pay four to flash back Plunder: another noncreature cast, another amass trigger, and two cards drawn.

Replay a recruit flyer when time allows

  1. Cast Nuisance for four mana and recruit. Its flying body matters immediately as a future blocker, even if you choose not to discard a nonland.
  2. On a safe later turn, cast Nurturer for three mana and return your Nuisance to hand. Returning that permanent puts a counter on Nurturer, but temporarily removes your flyer.
  3. Pay four again to recast Nuisance and recruit again. This is optional later value, not cheap defense; leave the flyer in play if the return would expose you to an attack.

Adapt the plan to your format

Pick-TwoOne-pickSealed
Pair useful interaction with the early creature or draw support the current deck needs. Two noncreature spells may help Noisemaker, but only if your existing battlefield can survive the spell-heavy turn.Use single picks to keep enough actual creatures beside the blue value and red interaction. A spell should do useful work without a reward before you count its extra trigger. The opened pool may produce a straightforward blue-red value deck without a spells engine. Keep flyers, castable bodies and answers; do not force every noncreature card into a Noisemaker plan.
