Does the support exist?

Count actual Lessons, Allies, counters or draw effects.

Choose a plan, not a pile of favorites

Identify what your deck does on turns two and three. A missing early creature or removal spell can matter more than another expensive payoff.

Start with Lessons and Allies

Bryan Hohns’ post-release guide emphasizes blue Lesson shells and white Ally shells. Use those as starting points, then follow the cards actually reaching you.

Look twice at small hybrid creatures

Messenger Hawk and Pretending Poxbearers fit more than one color pair. Their extra material can support waterbending, drawing or sacrifice.

Reliable commons, before chasing rares

At 100+ drawn instances in the public Premier sample, the leading common in each color is Path to Redemption (57.8%); Lost Days (59.2%); Sold Out (57.1%); Firebending Lesson (58.8%); Ostrich-Horse (57.6%). These describe decks that drew the card, not an unconditional pick order. Use the pair plan and your curve to decide.

Three Play Boosters each. Pick one at a time, then build 40-card decks. Use the pair plans to count support instead of collecting only impressive cards.

Use three Play Boosters per player. Take one card each pick and pass left, right, then left across the three packs. Build at least 40 cards; you may add basic lands. Agree on match structure before starting.

Before a paper event

Outside strategy notes cannot be consulted during sanctioned drafting, construction or games. Brief prewritten notes may be reviewed between games; public Oracle lookup follows separate rules. Ask your organizer about devices and note use.
