  • Prerelease

    Paper, in storesNow·Sep 25–Oct 1
    Event rules

Build from the six Play Boosters and promo in your own Prerelease Pack. Two-Headed Giant teams share one pack plus two additional Play Boosters by default; confirm the store’s event allocation.

    Your pool, your event:
Individual prerelease: six Play Boosters plus the kit promo. Use only this event’s pool and permitted added basic lands. An eligible Special Guest opened in the pool is playable; Commander-only FRC cards from other products are not pool additions.
    Forty cards and a sideboard:
Each Limited deck has a minimum of 40 cards; usually play exactly 40. There is no four-copy limit. Unused event cards form your sideboard. You can add basic Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains and Forests, but not arbitrary Wastes or snow basics.
    Echoed cards are separate cards:
Matching versions in a booster do not oblige you to play both. They have separate names and text. The legend rule checks same-named legendary permanents under one player’s control; standard Jace tokens are not legendary.
    Changes between rounds:
When decklists are not used, continuous construction normally permits rebuilding between matches unless the organizer says otherwise. It is not available at Competitive or Professional Rules Enforcement Level. Ask which procedure your event uses.

  • Draft Night

    Paper, at homeFrom Oct 2
    Event rules

A four-player Pick-Two kit with twelve Play Boosters. Each player drafts three packs. Use the included basic lands to finish the decks; keep the Collector Booster outside the draft pool.

Four players use three Play Boosters each, take two cards per selection and play two rounds. Build a deck of at least 40 cards. The Collector Booster in the kit is a separate prize; ordinary Draft Night does not use the Echoes rule.

Pregame: reveal two different drafted cards from an Echoed Pair. They start in exile; you may cast one as though it were in your hand.

    Event rules

Three Play Boosters per player. Pick-Two with an optional pregame Echoed Pair. Ask your store whether both halves must be in your deck.

Before each game begins, a player may reveal two different cards they drafted that are part of an Echoed Pair. Those cards start the game in exile. The player may cast one of those cards during the game as though it were in their hand; when they do, they may shuffle the other into their library.

Choose at most one pair each game. Two copies of the same card are not a pair. Pay normal costs and follow normal timing. Shuffling the partner is optional.

Outside strategy notes cannot be consulted during sanctioned drafting, construction or games. Brief prewritten notes may be reviewed between games; public Oracle lookup follows separate rules. Ask your organizer about devices and note use.

Draft & Pick-Two 101

  • 4players at paper Draft Night
  • 3Play Boosters each
  • 2cards per selection
  • 40cards in your deck
  1. Choose two cards from the pack in front of you, then pass the rest. Pass left for pack one, right for pack two and left for pack three.

  2. At a four-player paper Draft Night, a 14-card opening pack returns with six cards after each player has taken two. This return example describes that paper pod; do not assume the same pod size or return on Arena. About 42 drafted cards become your pool; add basic lands to build your deck.

  3. One pick can take a whole echoed pair. The two cards are separate spells, and you may take either, both or neither. Check whether each one fits your colors and plan.

Matching names and art do not guarantee matching deck jobs. Standard Arena Pick-Two does not use Reality Echoes’ start-in-exile rule.

The ten-second pick check

4 questions

Ask them in this order.

Can I play early?

Check your two- and three-mana plays before another expensive reward.

What enables this?

Name the card that makes the reward work. A second payoff does not supply the missing enabler.

What answers their threat?

Keep useful interaction. Check whether it hits creatures, planeswalkers or only a narrow target.

Can I use both picks?

Read costs, support and timing separately. Two cards that look like a pair can ask for different decks.

What job does this card do?

All 223 card notes →

Look past the power level. Name the job before deciding whether it belongs.

What matters in Reality Fracture

All mechanics →

Protect the board before chasing value

Jace tokens and repeatable abilities need time. An engine that cannot survive an attack may generate less than an ordinary blocker.

Planeswalkers, step by step →

A prepared spell is future work for your mana

The creature can supply another spell later. You still pay for it, follow its timing and keep track of prepared status.

Same colors, different actual deck

Your cards may support a removal-heavy deck even when the advertised theme is aggression. Use the pair pages to test support, not force a theme.
