A cheap counter with a combat fallback.
More
- What it needs
- Hold up 1U; identify whether the spell is a creature or legendary spell.
- How to use it
- Counter unless its controller pays three, or give a creature −5/−0 for a combat. The second mode can protect a walker by shrinking an attacker.
- Playing against it
- It cannot counter an ordinary nonlegendary removal spell. Late-game opponents can pay the tax.
- Pick-Two
- Read this answer’s exact target restriction before treating it as removal for the threat you need to beat.
- Sealed vs Draft
- A flexible early answer, but do not count it as unconditional late-game removal.
- Two-Headed Giant
- The effect still has its printed number of targets. Two opponents do not turn a single-target spell into two answers.
