Hapatra, the Desert Fang FRA 0271 · uncommon

Take it when

Consider BG when a high-mana-value card can reach your graveyard before Hapatra.

What to take next

Take useful landcyclers and self-mill; still fill your early creature slots.

Wrong pick

Do not count the number of creatures in the graveyard. Her X uses the single greatest mana value among cards there.

Mana & splash

2BBG needs a real black base plus green; the landcycler can find a missing basic, but it does not remove the double-black requirement.

Interactions from the card text, not a ranking.

Apex WitchstalkerBasic landcycling discards a six-mana-value card while finding a basic land, setting X to at least six if it stays in the graveyard.

Primal WitchstalkerIts entry mills four and can return a land tapped, helping both setup and mana.

Pick-Two

Its X uses the greatest mana value of a card in your graveyard. A discarded landcycler keeps its printed mana value there.

Sealed vs Draft

Check cards that can reach your graveyard and the 2BBG mana cost; merely having many small cards there does not make X large.

Two-Headed Giant

Its entry can put counters on up to one creature controlled by each opponent. X still uses only your graveyard, not your teammate’s.
